Loki – Welcome home! It looks like you are a mini aussie like me (or a toy). Anyway, you are adorable and your Mom must be sohappy to have you with her. Let her know us aussies are tough this three legged thing doesn’t hold us back one little bit. Take care!

I am a mini/almost toy… are you a front or rear tripawd?
April 4th, 2013 at 8:19 pm
Hi Stacey – Shooter is a front tripawd. Had is left front amputated in January. Sounds like Loki is going to adapt very well as he is already wanting to be out and about. He is one of the prettiest I have ever seen. I don’t think I have ever seen a black-tri with blue eyes – absolutely striking! Hang in there – the next couple weeks are the hardest, but (at least for us) it gets better from there.

Thanks everyone for my welcome home!!! Mom is one tired lady!
For some reason she wont let me out of this kennel thing and let me play with my bother and sister! So I keept barking at her all night long “LET ME OUT LET ME OUT LET ME OUT!!!” I am sure she can’t hear me… so I bark in a higher pitch now.
Maybe today she will let me play a tiny bit 🙂

Just an FYI I thought of last night. I wasn’t sure if Loki’s amp was due to cancer, but if you are going to be doing any chemo, please be aware that herding dogs can have a drug sensitivity due to a gene mutation. Aussies have a 50% chance of having the mutation and Shooter has a single mutation (they can have a double mutation) so his chemo dosage had to be adjusted. There is a forum post called “Herding Dog Sensitivity” that has all the links to WSU’s study and list of affected drugs and how to get the DNA test done. Kudos to your vet if they already have mentioned this!

Loki’s amp was due to a freak accident involving him and the cat playing back and forth “tag your it”. Due to the severity of the break, the ortho said he only had a minor chance that surgical repair would work and most likely end in amputation. So we just descided to amputate and not put him through 2 surgeries.
Thanks a ton for the heads up though… that was very kind of you!
